The Singaporean travel site and registered trademark of AGIP traces its roots back when Michael Kenny established the company in 1997 with the aim of providing hotel reservations mainly focused in the Asia Pacific. Agoda is also managed and operated by Priceline, which is an American online travel agency.
Now, Agoda has listed over 700,000 properties in 197 destinations and has over 2,000 employees. There was no specific meaning for the word Agoda by netizens who thought that it’s a mixture of the words agenda and go. Mr. Kenny also founded Tropical Trails, PlanetHoliday, and PrecisionReservations; these three companies became part of Agoda. Even though Agoda is a Singaporean company, their head office is found in Bangkok, Thailand.
How does Agoda work?
I personally love the layout of the page; it’s user-friendly and easy to access plus the landscape background gives an inviting effect. However, I wonder how mountains and grasses are related to a hotel. Maybe a choice of a hotel interior as a background will be wiser. In case customers want to change the country and currency, the option is located at the top right before the sign in button.
Scrolling further down will give travelers ideas of places they might want to visit with their Top Destinations section. It is showing several countries and cities, provided with the information of how many properties.
Agoda serves in those places. It also shows a list of reviews regarding the hotel and resort for travelers to see the credibility of the place.
Travelers can earn reward points each time they make a booking; Agoda Rewards is the frequent flyer program of Agoda wherein customers can get 4-7% cash back. To learn more about this program, click here.
On a positive note, Agoda has a mobile app wherein customers can access the same services on their mobile phones in iOS, Android, and Windows. The travel app lets travelers search, decide, book, and access information about Agoda. The recent update of the app really helped customers a lot with their on-hand travel needs.
Agoda Reviews of Customers
Checking with some Agoda reviews, the company is gathering a majority of positive feedback and this is a good sign that the company is trustworthy. However, it is really impossible if there are no negative comments.

After writing this review and reading other Agoda reviews, evidently the online hotel meta search engine is one of the more trusted sites. However, I guess a lot of online travel agencies are also doing the same way of providing services like just basically searching and comparing; this might be the reason why Agoda is considered as one of the neutral online hotel booking sites. Maybe they should try an innovative way to rank themselves up.
